A halo you only see from the side

A hidden halo sits underneath the center stone, wrapping the basket rather than circling the stone on the top face. Looking down at the hand you see a clean radiant solitaire. Looking at the ring in profile you see a band of small stones beneath the center.

It has become the compromise for people who want the solitaire silhouette and a little more detail than a plain setting gives. The radiant suits it particularly well, because the cropped-corner outline stays crisp from above with nothing sitting alongside it.

What it does not do

A hidden halo does not enlarge the apparent size of the center stone. A traditional halo does that, because the eye reads the cluster as one outline. Choose a hidden halo for the detail rather than the size illusion, and if size is the priority, take the visible halo instead.

It also raises the stone slightly, since the accents need room beneath it. That gives a taller profile, which looks good on the hand and catches marginally more on clothing.
