Princess Cut Moissanite Engagement Rings

A princess cut is a square brilliant. The faceting underneath works the same way a round brilliant does, returning light as fine scattered sparkle rather than the broad flashes of a step cut. What changes is the outline, which stays square and sharp-cornered.

That brilliant faceting is worth knowing about for moissanite specifically. The many small facets scatter moissanite's extra fire, so a princess reads closer to a diamond than an emerald or a chunky cushion of the same carat weight.

The corners are the weak point

A princess carries four sharp 90 degree corners, and those are the first place any square stone takes damage. Moissanite is 9.25 on the Mohs scale, so it resists scratching from almost everything it will meet, but a hard knock on an exposed corner is a different kind of force. A setting with V-prongs covering all four corners is the sensible choice for a ring you wear every day.
