Dainty rings use narrow bands, typically 1.2mm to 1.8mm, and smaller stones set low. The result sits close to the finger, slides under gloves, and does not announce itself across a table. For people who work with their hands or simply dislike a large ring, this is the section to start in.

The honest limitation

A very narrow band is less structurally robust than a wider one. Below about 1.2mm a band can bend out of round if it takes a hard knock, particularly in sterling silver, which is softer than gold or platinum. If you want a dainty ring for everyday wear, 14k gold or platinum will hold its shape better than silver will at the same width.

Narrow bands are also harder to resize more than a size or two, so measuring carefully matters more here than usual.
