Emerald Cut Moissanite Engagement Rings

Emerald cut moissanite engagement rings, made to order in sterling silver, gold, or platinum. The step cut gives broad flashes of light rather than fine sparkle, and the elongated shape covers more finger than a round stone of the same carat weight.

What the emerald cut does differently

An emerald cut is a step cut. In place of the many small triangular facets of a round brilliant, it has long parallel facets running in steps down from the table. That gives broad flashes of light rather than the fine scattered sparkle of a brilliant. People often describe the effect as a hall of mirrors.

Because the facets are broad and the table is open, an emerald cut shows the inside of the stone more plainly than a brilliant does. In a mined diamond that is a risk, since inclusions have nowhere to hide. Our moissanite is lab-grown and eye-clean, so the open table works in your favor here.

Fire, and when it becomes obvious

Moissanite disperses light about 2.4 times as strongly as diamond, 0.104 against 0.044. In a round brilliant that extra fire gets broken up across dozens of small facets. In an emerald cut the facets are large, so it comes through as distinct flashes of color instead.

Some people pick the emerald cut for exactly that reason. Others find it reads as obviously not a diamond. Above roughly 1.5 to 2 carats in bright daylight the difference becomes noticeable to anyone who knows what to look for, and a jeweler with a tester can identify moissanite every time. If you want the least conspicuous option, stay at or below 1.5ct.

Size and proportion

Emerald cuts are elongated, so they cover more finger than a round stone of the same carat weight. A length to width ratio around 1.4:1 to 1.5:1 is the classic proportion. Narrower reads more modern, wider reads more vintage.

Frequently asked questions

Is an emerald cut good for moissanite?

It depends what you want. The broad step facets show moissanite's extra fire as distinct flashes of color, which some buyers choose deliberately. If you want the least conspicuous moissanite, a round or radiant hides the fire better. Above roughly 1.5 to 2ct the effect is noticeable in bright light.

Do emerald cuts show flaws more?

In mined diamonds, yes, because the open table hides nothing. Our moissanite is lab-grown and eye-clean, so the open table works in your favor here.

What length to width ratio should an emerald cut be?

1.4:1 to 1.5:1 is the classic proportion. Squarer reads closer to an asscher, longer reads more dramatic.
