Why a halo works well at the neck
A pendant is viewed from further away than a ring, which means it needs more surface area to register. A halo of small stones around the center enlarges the apparent size of the whole piece, so a halo pendant with a 1ct center presents like a considerably larger solitaire from across a room.
That makes the halo the most cost-effective way to get visible size at the neck, since small accent stones are far cheaper per carat than one large center.
Chain and weight
Halo pendants are heavier than solitaire pendants of the same center weight, because of the extra stones and metal. A heavy pendant on a fine chain drags the clasp round to the front within an hour of wearing it, so match the chain weight to the pendant. An 18 inch chain sits just below the collarbone and suits most necklines.
