How Big Is the Moissanite Market? Published Estimates Disagree by 1,600x

Ravi D

If you look up how big the moissanite market is, you will find an answer. The problem is you will find a different answer from every source, and the gap between the smallest and the largest published figure is about 1,600 times.

We compiled every moissanite market size estimate we could find in August 2026. Here they are, with sources. Then we work through why they disagree and which number is actually defensible.

The published estimates

Source Market size Year Forecast
QY Research $43.36 million 2025 $72.35m by 2032, 7.7% CAGR
Business Research Insights $50 million 2026 $90m by 2035, 7.5% CAGR
Knowledge Sourcing Intelligence $200 million (2030) 2030 5.29% CAGR
Cognitive Market Research $1.3 billion 2025 $2.97bn by 2033, 10.9% CAGR
Verified Market Reports $1.5 billion 2024 $3.2bn by 2033, 9.4% CAGR
MarkWide Research $1.8 billion 2026 $3.81bn by 2035, 8.7% CAGR
Dataintelo $1.8 billion 2025 $4.1bn by 2034, 9.5% CAGR
GLEEI $42.88 billion 2026 ~8% CAGR
Persistence Market Research $68.6 billion 2026 $112.3bn by 2033, 7.3% CAGR

Smallest to largest: $43.36 million against $68.6 billion. A factor of roughly 1,582.

The arithmetic problem at the top end

Here is the check that settles it. Verified Market Reports, in its own moissanite report, cites a US Geological Survey figure putting the entire global gemstone market at roughly $34 billion by 2025.

Moissanite is one gemstone within that market. So any estimate placing moissanite alone at $42.88 billion or $68.6 billion is describing a market larger than the entire category it belongs to. Those two figures cannot be measuring finished moissanite jewelry, whatever else they may be measuring.

That single observation removes the top of the range, and the spread drops from 1,600x to about 40x.

Why the rest still disagree

Four explanations, and most reports do not state which applies to them.

1. Raw stones or finished jewelry

A loose 1ct moissanite wholesales for a few dollars. The finished ring retails for hundreds. Whether you count the stone or the piece changes the answer by an order of magnitude on its own, and this alone could explain the gap between the $43 million cluster and the $1.5 billion cluster.

2. Jewelry or industrial silicon carbide

Moissanite is silicon carbide, and silicon carbide is a serious industrial material used as a semiconductor substrate in high-power and high-temperature electronics. Dataintelo's report explicitly notes this industrial application. A report that folds semiconductor-grade SiC into a moissanite market figure will produce a far larger number than one counting gemstones.

3. Different definitions of the market boundary

Some reports appear to count only branded, certified moissanite. Others count all synthetic diamond simulants. MarkWide notes that over seventy percent of synthetic moissanite rough comes from Guangxi in China, which suggests they are tracking rough production rather than retail sales.

4. Undisclosed methodology

This is the uncomfortable one. Several of these reports do not publish a method, a sample, or a definition of what is being counted. Some read as though they were assembled quickly and at scale. We are not in a position to say how any individual report was produced, and we are not accusing anyone of anything. What we can say is that a figure with no stated scope and no stated method cannot be checked by a reader, and should not be cited as though it can.

So which number should you use

If you need one figure for finished moissanite jewelry globally, the defensible answer is somewhere between $1.3 and $1.8 billion as of 2025 to 2026.

That range is supported by four independent sources that broadly agree: Cognitive Market Research at $1.3 billion for 2025, Verified Market Reports at $1.5 billion for 2024, and MarkWide Research and Dataintelo both at $1.8 billion for 2026 and 2025 respectively. Independent convergence is the only quality signal available here, and it is a weak one, but it beats picking a number at random.

Growth estimates are more consistent than size estimates. Every source in the table lands between 5.3% and 10.9% CAGR, clustering around 8 to 9%. That agreement is worth more than it looks, because the growth rate does not depend on where you draw the market boundary.

If you are citing this in your own work, our suggestion is to give the range rather than a point estimate, and to say which sources it comes from.

What we could not verify

Being explicit about the limits of this.

We did not purchase any of these reports. The figures above come from the publicly visible summaries on each firm's website, gathered in August 2026. Full reports may contain scope definitions that resolve some of the discrepancies described here, and if any of these firms publishes a clarification we will update this page and say so.

We also did not find any government or trade-association figure for moissanite specifically. There is no equivalent of the Kimberley Process statistics that exist for diamonds. That absence is most of the reason this problem exists.

Our interest in this, stated plainly

Grown Halo sells moissanite jewelry, so we have an obvious interest in the category looking large and growing. That is exactly why we have argued the number down rather than up, and why every figure above is attributed to its source so you can check it without taking our word for anything.

How we compiled this

Searched in August 2026 for published moissanite market size estimates, in English, from market research publishers and industry analysts. Recorded the headline figure, base year, forecast and CAGR exactly as each source states them. No figures were adjusted, converted or interpolated. Sources with no stated base year were excluded. Nine estimates met those criteria and all nine appear in the table.

We will refresh this page annually. If you spot an estimate we have missed, or a scope definition that explains one of these figures, tell us and we will add it with credit.

FAQs

How big is the moissanite market?

Published estimates for finished moissanite jewelry cluster between $1.3 billion and $1.8 billion for 2025 to 2026, across four independent sources. Estimates outside that range appear to be measuring something different, such as rough stone production or industrial silicon carbide.

Why do moissanite market size estimates vary so much?

Mainly scope. Counting loose stones rather than finished jewelry, or including industrial silicon carbide used in semiconductors, produces very different totals. Most reports do not state which they are counting.

How fast is the moissanite market growing?

Every source we found puts annual growth between 5.3% and 10.9%, clustering around 8 to 9%. Growth estimates agree far more than size estimates, because growth does not depend on where the market boundary is drawn.

Is there an official moissanite market figure?

No. No government body or trade association publishes moissanite-specific data, and there is no equivalent of the diamond industry's Kimberley Process statistics. Every available figure is a private estimate.

That last point is closely related to the data problem described here: a category without standard grading is also a category without standard measurement.
